Stepping up efforts to stop COVID-19:A message from the Governor of Tokyo(August 31st 2021)

I would like to thank you-the people and businesses of Tokyo-for your continued efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.

To Tokyo’s health care professionals, I would like to express my gratitude for your tireless efforts to protect the lives of Tokyo residents day and night.

The number of new positive cases and severe cases is increasing at an explosive rate.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is mobilizing all of its resources to implement proactive measures to address the issue, as well as measures to protect residents. As part of our strategy, we are promoting vaccinations and the use of antibody cocktail treatments.

In addition, we are shoring up systems for at-home care, designated recovery facilities, and the provision of heath care, including the establishment of oxygen stations, and are enhancing the types of care available.
Another strategy involves substantially reducing person-to-person contact in order to put a stop to the spread of the highly infectious Delta variant.

It is necessary to reduce the movement of people by about half that of July levels.

Therefore, I would like to ask you to aim to reduce your outings by 50 percent. If you do go out, please reduce the number of people going and the length of time you spend outside the home by half.
To the businesses of Tokyo, I request that you firmly commit to reducing the number of people who come into work by 70 percent as a part of your management policy.

The actions of each individual add up, contributing to the overall movement of people throughout the city. Through our efforts, we can reduce contact between people. I would like to ask you to act with an even stronger sense of crisis than ever before.

Please continue taking basic preventive measures such as wearing a mask and frequently washing your hands.

Your actions to avoid getting COVID-19 protect not only yourself, but also your family and friends, and many people beyond your immediate circle. Let’s continue to work together! Thank you for your cooperation.
