COVID-19 State of Emergency Now in Effect : A message from the Governor of Tokyo (June 4th 2021)
I would like to thank you—the people of Tokyo—for your continued cooperation in working to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
I realize that the restrictions we are implementing continue to have a serious impact on your lives and livelihoods, but please understand that the number of COVID-19 cases still remains at a high level.
The N501Y variant is now the dominant strain. And, cases of the even more infectious variants of the virus are also being reported.
Following the Golden Week holiday, the movement of people in Tokyo has increased. If this continues, a rebound in the number of cases, which has finally started to decline, could occur.
To the people of Tokyo, I request that you refrain from non-essential outings. Please especially make efforts not to be out after 8 p.m. on weekdays. And, be sure to stay home as much as possible on Saturdays and Sundays. Please also refrain from going to other prefectures.
To prevent a rebound from occurring, now is the time to persevere. Let’s work together to overcome COVID-19.
